Squad Goals

For this week’s Cinemavino, we go back to a Halloween cult classic: Monster Squad. It has all the monsters, all the cheesy one-liners, and more than a few slurs that serve as a reminder of its time. This is a very special episode, because we’re bringing in a friend! Sean Jordan, an expert on horror movies, stops by for a chat about this movie, and to share his watchlist for Halloween! If you’re a fan of the genre, this one is a must-listen. We paired this discussion with In Sheep’s Clothing, a W...

Plan 9 From Outer Space (Bordeaux)

When you do a podcast about drinking wine and watching movies, things are bound to fly off the rails from time to time.  The boys and I went a champagne tasting right before this episode was recorded, and we got a little looped as a result.

Plan Nein

When you do a podcast about drinking wine and watching movies, things are bound to fly off the rails from time to time. The boys and I went a champagne tasting right before this episode was recorded, and we got a little looped as a result. And when I say looped, I mean Travis Budd takes it to the next level. He is slurring, jabbering wine-hammered. He fumbles over a few words early on, and Taylor and I can barely keep from laughing for the entire rest of the episode. This time around, we screen ...

A Hare's Nightmare

For good behavior, my fifth grade class was awarded with a monthly movie. Somewhere in there, Watership Down made the cut. It’s a weird, whacked-out animated film that crawled into my nightmares for several weeks after. As a…ahem..children’s movie, this sum’bitch tackles some heavy subjects: Death, forced labor, extinction, deforestation, etc. Bunnies are ripping each other’s throats out, people! My wife and I have a son on the way, and he will NOT be watching this movie. At least ’till he’s thi...

Those About to Rock

This week, we screen an over-the-top 90s classic, The Rock. We got cornball one-liners, frantic Michael Bay direction, and a wacky chase through the streets of San Francisco. While we’re talking about the City by the Bay, the boys and I drink a cocktail that’s long been a local favorite. It’s called a Boothby, and here’s a little more info: 1 oz. Bourbon 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth 2 dashes bitters Pour over ice in a cocktail shaker, serve over ice. Top it with a splash of dry bubbly. Garnish with a c...

Three Amigos (Cerveza, Tequila)

For this week’s Cinemavino, we settle back into our routine:  Draw a movie, drink, and screen it.  This episode, the 80s classic Three Amigos is the lucky film.  I watched it a thousand times as a kid, but it’s been years.

Los Amigos Barrachos

For this week’s Cinemavino, we settle back into our routine: Draw a movie, drink, and screen it. This episode, the 80s classic Three Amigos is the lucky film. I watched it a thousand times as a kid, but it’s been years. Movies like that often feel like a familiar, favorite blanket, and this one was no different. In keeping with the movie’s Mexican setting, the boys and I down a few Mexican beers and take too many shots of Cimarron tequila. If we sound goofy by the end, that’s why. This one was t...

The Inevitable Clip Show

For this episode, the boys and I discuss a few podcast highlights and drink a little Malbec.  This includes some new footage from the pilot episode that Travis and I recorded, which has never been aired.  Kick back and enjoy a trip down memory lane!

Hips Don't Lanai

It’s inevitable that most sitcoms will feature at least one clip show. We’ve all seen ’em: The main characters sit around in one room and reminisce about their favorite memories. It conserves time and money for future episodes. Hell, even Star Trek: The Next Generation had one. For this episode, the boys and I discuss a few podcast highlights and drink a little Malbec. This includes some new footage from the pilot episode that Travis and I recorded, which has never been aired. Kick back and enjo...

The 13th Warrior

Starting with this episode, we will draw movie title out of a hat, drink lots of good wine, and discuss that movie at length.  For this go-around, we drink a fantastic Merlot from the Acre winery and screen a 90s chestnut, The 13th Warrior.

Cinemavino -- 13th Bore-rior

This week’s Cinemavino brings a new format. Starting with this episode, we will draw movie title out of a hat, drink lots of good wine, and discuss that movie at length. For this go-around, we drink a fantastic Merlot from the Acre winery and screen a 90s chestnut, The 13th Warrior. Based on a novel by Michael Crichton, Warrior was a troubled production from the get-go. As an action-centered period epic, the budget was already going to be high. But when preview audiences declared that it sucked ...

Clichés for Days

omeone once observed that a cliché only becomes a cliché by virtue of being true. Monologging villains have been around since before movies had sound. The same goes for damsels-in-distress. There are so many cinematic tropes, no one podcast could contain them all. For this week’s Cinemavino, we drink some delicious Cotê du Rhone red and talk about our favorite movie clichés. Enjoying this website? You can help support it and gain access to exclusive material by purchasing my new ebook, all for ...
